DBB Drop Opening Game On The Road In A Thriller

The DBB LZOÖ Linz-Wels began their new Season on Saturday night against the Vienna DC Timberwolves on the road.  In what was sure to be a high intensity dual between the rivals, first game nerves would need to be quickly aside and one team would need to set their will through.

The home team started fast after DBB had a short 4-3 lead thanks to a basket from Sara Milovanovic. The Timberwolves went on a 11-2 run opening up a 14-6 advantage.  Flora Göd was strong in this phase scoring 6 pts.  The rest of the opening quarter belonged to the home side who would build a 21-14 lead.

DBB came roaring back with a 10-2 run top open the 2nd quarter behind the play of Kolin & Ganhör.  The Upper Austrian side would surge to a 24-21 lead before Antonia Dumancic scored putting the hosts back in front.  Dumancic was a force in the opening half scoring 16 points.  With DBB leading 28-25 after a Selina Führer jumper, the Timberwolves would used two 3 pt shots to forge ahead 31-30 at halftime.

The 3rd quarter was a disaster for the guests from Linz-Wels.  The Offense went flat and the defense allowed the Timberwolves easy baskets.  Petra Pammer had a strong 3rd quarter giving her team a lift with 7 pts and the hosts opened a 49-36 lead after 30:00 of basketball.

As they did in the 2nd quarter, the DBB side came out strong to begin the 4th quarter with Kolin, Schwarzinger and Jelinek scoring to cut the lead to 49-44.  The Timberwolves then spurted out to a 6-0 run to build their lead back up to 55-44.  The came sat i the Timberwolves hands at 60-52, two minutes before the end when DBB made a furious rally and cut the lead to two points 60-58 behind the play of Voithofer and Kolin.  Ganhör would hit 2 FT’s after Kindl would only hit 1-2 and the score stood 61-60 for the Timberwolves.  With .20 to play, the guests called their final timeout and came out of the huddle with the final play which would give them the victory.  Unfortunately, the Linz-Wels side turned the ball over and the Timberwolves would hit 1-2 FT’s to seal a very close and exciting game 62-60.

Coach Beszczynski after the game:  “These are the types of games that Teams learn from later in the Season. I’m very proud of the resilicency of my Team, we fought hard to get back in the game and gave ourselves a chance to win at the end.  More you can’t ask for.  The Timberwolves made the plays they had to make and at the end that was the difference.  This week coming up against the Duchess will be very difficult for us personnel wise, so everyone is going to have too step up.”
